What is it about the strike points in life that mean so much? The point where the hammer hits the nail, the rubber hits the road, or one life seems to strike another? I've always said it's people's experiences that shape who they are - but I don't think that's completely true. It's not people's general experiences, but rather a very specific set of moments that somehow rise above normal human activities and seem to mean so much more.
Lately I've been challenged to think about the moments that seem to transcend the rest of the day. It doesn't seem to matter if they are moments that leave me out of breath from my laughter or tears, they all seem to strike a cord with who I am and what I believe in. The hard part is ordering my life in such a way that I encounter these strike points more frequently.
I have a few friends that are really good at finding these moments. They seem to focus all their attention on the people around them, and the things they believe matter. They're inspiring in their integrity, commitment to fight for what they believe in, and drive to make the people they encounter feel valued. This commitment, passion, and excitement for the people in their lives creates an addicting energy that seems to leave a litany of these strike points in its wake.
Maybe it's those things that make the difference. If we're willing to invest in our community. If we're willing to stand up and be counted for who we are, and if we're committed to affording the people around us the same opportunity, maybe then we're able to tap into those moments that shape our tomorrow. Maybe then we can see ourselves for who we really are.
